Hydrogen Technology

Powder Technology Center offers high precision studies of the gas (particularly for hydrogen) sorption and desorption properties and kinetics as well as the determination of the pressure–composition diagrams of wide choice of material–hydrogen systems in a wide range of temperature (77 K / –196 °C up to 820 K / 550°C) and pressure (from vacuum to 20 MPa / 200 bar) using a safe, portable, fully automated, user-friendly, state-of-the-art, experimental apparatus based on the volumetric Sieverts’ technique. This apparatus is equipped with various sample chambers and suitable for use with additional techniques (e.g. X-ray and neutron scattering experiments). Owing to its compact design the apparatus can be operated under protective atmosphere in a glove box and easily conveyed to e.g. synchrotron and neutron sources. Designing the apparatus special attention was drawn to safety aspects. The system was tested by analysing some metal–hydrogen systems known from the literature and has been found extremely successful and reliable over a long period of time.
