Thermal Shock Cycles

Depending on the requirements the temperature extremes and the shock procedure can be selected among: ambient cooling in air (T' = 50 K/sec), forced cooling, water quench (T' = 300 K/sec).The limits of temperature gradients are 10 K/s and 400 K/s, the upper depends on the materials' properties. Starting temperatures range from -196°C to 1550°C. These rates cover the range of temperature gradients under service, also they can result in severe delamination of e.g. a composite. Also a laser shock test (T' = 3000 K/sec) developed at Seibersdorf can be offered as an option together with the TU-Vienna.
